Meet Tile Buddy Adam Honn

Team Spotlight: From Sales Analyst to National Account Manager – A Conversation with Adam Honn

At MAGNA-TILES®, our core value #BetterNeverStops is something we live and breathe every day, both through our products and our people. We sat down with one of our team members to learn more about their journey from Sales Analyst to National Account Manager, and how their career has evolved along with the brand.

Q: Can you share a little about your journey at MAGNA-TILES— how you started and what your role has evolved into?

A: I started at MAGNA-TILES in November 2022 after my former employer was executing a corporate relocation. I had just purchased a home with my wife, and I was not interested in leaving Chicagoland. I was lucky enough to receive interest from a recruiter about a Sales Analyst role with a company named MAGNA-TILES.

Unfamiliar with the brand at the time, I felt it was a really unique opportunity on a smaller team experiencing extreme growth. Coming from a Fortune 500 company the idea of being able to have a measurable impact with a growing organization was very appealing. Upon accepting the role and announcing to family and friends with young children, I was shocked with how positive and excited the feedback was about the brand and the product. It felt like everyone I knew with young children was quick to say how much themselves and their children loved MAGNA-TILES.

In the 2.5 years I have been with MAGNA-TILES the rapid growth and change has been extremely fun to be a part of. We have nearly doubled our workforce, and I have had a front row seat to watch our sales grow along with our team. After just over 2 years of holding the position of Sr. Sales Analyst, I was fortunate to receive a promotion to National Account Manager.

Q: What inspired you to take the leap into your most recent position?

A: I have held various Sales Support roles for the majority of the start of my career, and I have always envisioned growing into Account Management. When you support accounts and account managers there are always scenarios where you play out to yourself how you would handle a certain topic or scenario. I have had the opportunity to become savvy with analytics and reporting in the roles I have held and everything I have done in my career so far has been a sort of training for where I am now. I have also been fortunate enough to support and work under some very sharp and successful account managers and witnessing how they operate has been instrumental in where I am today.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your current role or the team you work with?

A: The thing I have enjoyed most in my 2.5 years at MAGNA-TILES is the culture and environment in the office, especially with our Sales Team. I know the culture of our Sales Team is genuinely unique. Everyone on the team is pulling on the same end of the rope and there is a collective effort to do what is best for MAGNA-TILES and the brand opposed to trying to just find wins on individual accounts.

Q: Looking back on the past couple of years, what are you most proud of?

A: On a personal level, I am most proud that I instilled confidence in the MAGNA-TILES leadership team to give me the opportunity to be the Account Manager of one of our most essential EComm & Retail partners. On the broader spectrum I am extremely proud to be a part of a company that brings joy and meaningful play to children across the world. Hearing parents tell you how much their children love MAGNA-TILES is a very rewarding feeling.

Q: How would you describe the culture at MAGNA-TILES to someone considering joining the team?

A: One word I always find myself using when I speak about working at MAGNA-TILES to friends and family is the word “special.” The office is very close knit, and our People and Culture Team does a phenomenal job in making MAGNA-TILES a fun place to work. There is a unique balance of chasing success while also having fun doing it. A couple of our company values that come to mind are, “Think Like a Child,” and “The Team, The Team, The Team.”

Q: Which MAGNA-TILES set is your favorite and why?

A: My favorite set is the Downhill Duo 40pc Set. When I started at MAGNA-TILES I was fairly uneducated about the Brand and the Toy Category, but only a few months after my start date, the Downhill Duo won the Toy of the Year Award in the pre-school construction category. There is always some natural trepidation when accepting a new role and that was a sort of mental validation that I made the best decision in my career by joining MAGNA-TILES.
